Morningside United Church Organ
The Morningside United Church Organ was built by Rushworth & Dreaper in 1955. It is a 2 manual and pedal 24 speaking stop organ with electro-pneumatic action. The organ was overhauled 1994 by Ronald Smith and in 2022/23 by Paul Miller of Bonnybridge.
The organ of 1955 made use of some pipework from the II/12 organ built in 1929 by Cousans, Sons and Company (of Lincoln). This instrument originated in 1904 in the Athenaeum building that was the previous home of Morningside Congregational Church, demolished in 1928 to make way for the present church.
The technical description of the organ elements was prepared by Michael Harris for a meeting of the Edinburgh Society of Organists in January 2024. The organ pipes that you see on the church wall are a decorative element. The sounding pipes are in the organ loft behind. The photos show the console, some of the pipes in the loft and pipes spread out in the church during the 2022 /23 works. A replacement adjustable organ bench was gifted to the church at that time.
